Story of Château Lagrézette
A castle whose origin dates back to the 12th century
In the 15th century, Adhémar de Massaut built the castle on the foundations of a 300-year-old medieval fortified house. Located on "la petite grèze" which dominates the Lot, it is called Château Lagrézette. With medieval architecture, in the 16th century it was adorned with an elegant Renaissance ornamentation. The first written harvests date back to 1503.In the middle of the 20th century, the castle was abandoned, but in 1980, its new owner Alain Dominique Perrin undertook ambitious works to restore the Domaine to its former splendor. In 1982, Lagrézette was classified as a Historic Monument.
A castle in the hand of a « Dame Honneur »
Marguerite de Massaut, Adhémar’s granddaughter, in the 15th century became the first woman heir to the estate. We learn, through documents, that the first harvest was thus carried out, under his leadership, in 1503. The courage of Marguerite de Massaut in managing the estate, in the absence of her fighting husband, gave her the reputation and er title."Dame Honneur" is today legitimately associated with one of the most prestigious vintages of Château Lagrézette and its silhouette adorns the center of the ceremonial fireplace in the château's arms room.
Alain Dominique Perrin, a tireless entrepreneur
As soon as he becomes the owner, Alain Dominique Perrin devotes a great deal of time, money and energy to rehabilitating Château Lagrézette, its gardens and its grounds. Charismatic entrepreneur, perfectionist, big fan of rugby, he is a man of challenges. Antiquarian, then President of Cartier, he then took the head of the luxury group Richemont and established himself as one of the first patrons of contemporary art in France, with the creation, in 1984, of the Cartier Foundation for contemporary art which he still presides over.He is Commander of the Legion of Honor.
